EKO HOT BLOG reports that Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the appeal on Wednesday during a press briefing in Abuja. He stated that President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated the political will to resolve all lingering disputes with the union and directed that every effort must be made to keep students in school.
According to Alausa, there is no justification for ASUU’s planned strike as the government is actively working on their grievances. He revealed that the Yayale Ahmed-led Federal Government Tertiary Institutions Expanded Negotiating Committee will meet with ASUU on Thursday to present the government’s latest offer.
“The President has directed that our children must remain in school and that we should do everything humanly possible to avert a strike,” Alausa said. “We are working tirelessly behind the scenes to resolve these issues that have persisted for over a decade.”
He explained that unlike previous administrations, the current government has merged the various negotiating committees for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education into one body for greater efficiency and coordination.
Alausa disclosed that ₦50 billion has already been released for Earned Academic Allowances, while ₦150 billion has been allocated in the 2025 budget for the revitalisation of tertiary institutions. He added that promotion arrears and other pending issues would be addressed in the 2026 budget.

He appealed to ASUU for patience, assuring that the government’s approach would be holistic, sustainable, and respectful of the unions’ concerns.
