Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that he will never defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite the growing number of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, following the recent exodus of PDP governors and lawmakers who have joined the APC in the past few days.

The former governor stated that although he openly supports President Bola Tinubu and considers him a respected national leader, particularly from the South-West, he remains committed to the PDP.
“The PDP’s problem did not start today. I am not a member of the APC and I will never be. I didn’t hide my support for Asiwaju; I consider him a leader in Nigeria and particularly from our zone,” Fayose said.
He explained that his admiration for Tinubu is based on leadership qualities, not political affiliation, adding that supporting the President does not mean abandoning his party.
Fayose also hinted that some of the remaining PDP governors are considering leaving the party, but he declined to name them.
According to him, the PDP is already struggling to survive as an opposition party and may not recover from its current internal crisis.
“The PDP, as it is today, is a dead party. I will not be part of those trying to resurrect it,” he said.

The former governor dismissed claims that President Tinubu was responsible for the PDP’s ongoing collapse, insisting that the party’s problems were self-inflicted.
Fayose, who served as Ekiti State governor from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2014 to 2018, has been known for his outspoken political views and close relationship with key political figures across party lines.
