According to eyewitness accounts, the man had stepped out to purchase bottled water from a nearby shop when a group of armed men stormed the area and began firing indiscriminately.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said the victim was struck by one of the stray bullets and died instantly.
“We were told that the man had just finished work that evening and went to the brothel to relax. He later stepped out to buy water since it was cheaper outside. While he was at a nearby shop, some men believed to be cultists drove by and started shooting aimlessly. One of the bullets hit him, and he died instantly,” the source explained.
A local resident, who also spoke under condition of anonymity, said the attack was cult-related and allegedly targeted at a rival group within the community.

“We discovered that the shooting was carried out by suspected cultists. Witnesses said the assailants were in a blue Toyota Corolla when they drove past and started firing before the man was hit,” the resident said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the body of the deceased was recovered from the scene the following morning.
“The attention of the police was drawn to the incident the next morning. His corpse was found at the scene, taken to the morgue, and later handed over to his family for burial,” Adebisi stated.
This latest killing adds to a growing number of cult-related shootings reported across parts of Lagos in recent months.
