EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during his monthly media parley with journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike described the reports as baseless and misleading, emphasizing that he had not received any official summons from the court.
The clarification followed media reports that Kanu, through his legal team, had named several prominent Nigerians as “compellable witnesses” in his case before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Among those listed were former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma; former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Responding to the reports, Wike said no official communication had been made to him regarding any witness appearance.

“You don’t become a witness by reading newspapers. Nobody has subpoenaed me,” he said. “If I see Wike listed as a witness, should I start running helter-skelter? No! It doesn’t work that way. If I am summoned to give evidence, I must obey the court.”
The minister added that only those who included his name could explain the reasons for doing so. “As to why I was named as a witness, he who mentioned me there should be asked, not me,” he stated.
