Speaking to journalists at the party’s headquarters, Lamido, who governed Jigawa State for eight years, expressed his disappointment over the incident. He insisted that nothing would prevent him from vying for the party’s chairmanship during the elective National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Lamido, who also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Olusegun Obasanjo, warned that he would seek judicial intervention if the party obstructed his candidacy.

Earlier, he had announced his intention to contest via a post on his verified Facebook page, stating that he would be at Wadata Plaza on Monday, October 27, 2025, by 11 a.m. to purchase the nomination form for the PDP National Chairman position.
This development comes amid the backing of former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, for the chairmanship, supported by PDP governors. Other prominent aspirants include former governors Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State and Ahmed Makarfi of Kaduna State.
