EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Bio arrived at the State House around 9:08 p.m. and was received by the Presidential Brigade of Guards, who performed a ceremonial welcome before he was escorted into Tinubu’s office for the private discussions.
The meeting comes about four months after President Bio succeeded Tinubu as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, following Tinubu’s two-year tenure in the position.
Although the agenda of the talks was not disclosed as of the time of filing this report, sources indicate that discussions may be linked to regional security and Bio’s new role as ECOWAS Chair.
The meeting also comes amid rising international attention over alleged human rights violations in Nigeria, following a recent threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to consider military action over claims of Christian persecution.
President Tinubu had earlier dismissed Trump’s allegations, insisting that Nigeria remains committed to protecting the rights and freedoms of all religious groups and rejecting what he called “false and politically motivated narratives.”
Similarly, ECOWAS, under Bio’s leadership, described the genocide claims as “false narratives intended to inflame tensions,” warning that extremist groups across West Africa have attacked civilians of all faiths in an effort to destabilize the region.

Friday’s visit marks President Bio’s first official trip to Nigeria since assuming the ECOWAS chairmanship in July 2025. Details of the outcome of the meeting are expected to be made public in the coming days.
