The ancient town of Odogbawojo Kingdom, under the leadership of Oba Adelani Adeniyi, the Aladegbawojo of Odogbawojo Kingdom, is set to host this year’s Owu National Convention — a grand gathering that unites all Owu sons and daughters across Nigeria and the diaspora.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the annual event, which fosters peace, unity, and cultural revival among Owu descendants, will hold on the 5th and 6th of December 2025.

This year’s edition promises to be remarkable, featuring a lineup of exciting activities including cultural displays, traditional games, football competitions, a beauty pageant, and several other contests aimed at strengthening communal bonds.
Speaking ahead of the event, Oba Adelani Adeniyi emphasized the historical significance of the Owu people and the essence of the annual convention.
According to him, “Owu has a rich and united heritage. There was only one Owu, and that was Olowu, the first son of Oduduwa.

The Owu people are one family, though spread across different regions due to historical circumstances.”
Tracing the origin of the Owu migration, the monarch explained that during the Oyo war, the Owu community was defeated, leading to their dispersion across various regions such as Abeokuta, Ijebu, Owu Ikosi, Kwara, Ondo, and Ayepe.
He further narrated how Owu Ijebu gave rise to Odogbawojo’s lineage. “Owu Ijebu gave birth to Adegbawojo, who left Ijebu to settle at Odogbawojo after the oracle instructed him to establish his own domain,” the monarch recounted.
As civilization and modernization expanded, Owu descendants began to see the need to reconnect and preserve their shared identity.
This consciousness led to the creation of the Owu National Convention, which rotates among all Owu-bearing towns.
The initiative was convened by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a proud son of Owu and former President of Nigeria.
“The annual Owu Convention has become a symbol of unity and a bridge linking our people together regardless of where they live,” Oba Adeniyi said.
“This year, we are proud to host it in Odogbawojo and welcome all our brothers and sisters home.”
The event will be held under the auspices of the Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP), with dignitaries, traditional rulers, and cultural enthusiasts expected from across the country.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other prominent Owu personalities are also billed to attend.
