- Governor, experts say digital platform will curb land racketeering, corruption
- Tan noted that Singapore adopted a similar digital planning system in 2001
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Electronic Physical Planning Process System, a digital platform designed to reform land administration and drive smart urban development across the State, Eko Hot Blog reports.
At the official launch held in Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday, Sanwo-Olu said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continuous improvement of governance through technology. He noted that traditional paper-based systems can no longer support the scale of development in a rapidly expanding megacity like Lagos.
The Governor said the new system will digitalise planning applications, reduce human interference, curb corruption, support environmental monitoring, and provide accurate data for infrastructure planning and safety regulation.
He confirmed that planning officers now have access to upgraded digital facilities, including more than one thousand new computers deployed across offices.
According to him, the system aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly in the areas of technology, innovation, and efficient service delivery. Sanwo-Olu added that the initiative also supports the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu by promoting digital governance and simplifying approval processes for developers and entrepreneurs.

He urged all stakeholders including developers, professionals, and residents to fully embrace the innovation and use it to support sustainable and orderly urban development.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on e GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde, described the launch as the achievement of a long-term vision. He said the digital system will eliminate backlogs, reduce waiting times, block leakages in government revenue, and minimise opportunities for corruption.
Representatives of LagosNet, including Singaporean partners Raymond Tan and Steven Chan, shared insights on their collaboration with Lagos.
Tan noted that Singapore adopted a similar digital planning system in 2001, saving the government billions through efficient and streamlined processes. He added that the system will not threaten jobs but will enhance professionalism and decision-making.
Chan expressed optimism that the new platform will support faster approvals, improve accountability, and advance Lagos’ digital transformation goals.
Chairman of Innovacore Technologies PTE and member of LagosNet, Adebola Adeyinka, described the project as one that demanded courage and innovation. He noted that despite initial scepticism, the platform has proven to be a credible tool designed to elevate Lagos to higher levels of economic and governance excellence.
