Life and Career
Born on 27 September 1963, Olusegun Awolowo was a Nigerian lawyer and the former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council. He led the council from 2013 to 2021.
He was a grandson of nationalist and statesman Obafemi Awolowo. In July 2021, he was unanimously elected President of the National Trade Promotion Organisations from ECOWAS member states.
Mr Awolowo faced early personal loss, as his father Segun Awolowo Senior died in a car accident 2 months before his birth in 1963. He was raised largely by his aunt Tola Oyediran and her husband Kayode Oyediran.
He began his education at Mayhill Convent School, where he studied with Dolapo Osinbajo. He later attended Igbobi College in Lagos and Government College in Ibadan before earning his law degree from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University.
He was called to the bar in December 1989 and worked with respected law firms including Abayomi Sogbesan and Company and G O K Ajayi and Company.
He later served as Special Assistant to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar Adua, handling traditional institutions, legal matters and social development.

In 2013, he was appointed Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and was reappointed in 2018 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Under his leadership, the council pursued major initiatives to expand Nigeria’s non oil exports, including a 2019 partnership with Shoprite to promote Nigerian products across Africa.
Until his death, he served as President of the National Trade Promotion Organisations from ECOWAS member states.
