EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Friday, IPMAN’s National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, praised Aliko Dangote for not only identifying long-standing challenges in the petroleum distribution chain but also taking decisive steps to address them.
Ukadike described the move as a significant policy shift that would ease the operational burden on independent marketers. He said the initiative would help ensure cheaper and more accessible fuel supply nationwide.
“If you read Dangote’s statement in detail, it shows foresight. He identified systemic issues in the oil and gas sector and chose to tackle them head-on,” he said.
He added, “This is something we welcome with great enthusiasm. It will make petrol more affordable and accessible at the doorsteps of Nigerians. For years, our pipelines have remained inactive. Products are no longer moved through the 21 national depots. Independent marketers have been shouldering the cost of transporting products from coastal tank farms.”
The Dangote Refinery had announced on Sunday that it would begin complimentary fuel distribution to marketers, dealers, and large consumers from August 15, 2025. The refinery also revealed the acquisition of 4,000 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to drive the nationwide rollout.
However, not all industry players share the same optimism. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) raised concerns that the move could negatively impact depot owners, transport operators, and retailers with exclusive supply contracts to multinationals.

Responding, IPMAN’s Ukadike argued that as a refinery, Dangote has every right to explore more efficient distribution methods.
