The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its position as a continental leader in climate action after a successful series of high level engagements at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP30, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Eko Hot Blog reports that through the Office of Climate Change and Circular Economy, Lagos used the global platform to showcase practical, scalable solutions that demonstrate how African subnational governments can attract international capital for inclusive and measurable climate progress.

Over three sessions held from November six to eight, Lagos presented pioneering initiatives including the eighty million clean cookstoves programme and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority e Mobility programme. The presentations highlighted the growing capacity of African cities to design and implement climate projects that are attractive to global investors.
Speaking on the outcomes of the conference, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs Titi Oshodi, said Lagos attended COP30 to demonstrate true subnational leadership. She explained that the State is showing the world that African cities can build inclusive and investable climate solutions that improve lives at scale. According to her, Lagos strengthened global partnerships, deepened investor confidence and positioned itself as a model for how climate ambition can be converted into bankable, people centred projects.
Mrs Oshodi also highlighted the Lagos Private Roundtable which focused on financing urban climate solutions for a just and inclusive transition. The meeting brought together development finance institutions, philanthropic organisations and private sector investors to explore co financing pathways, de risking mechanisms and innovative structures for scaling green investments in Lagos.

She said key investment outcomes include commitments to advance feasibility and financing discussions for clean cooking projects, interest in co developing e mobility pilot corridors and early discussions with international partners on potential green bond issuances under the Lagos Climate Finance Framework.
The Africa Innovation Forum, jointly curated by the OCCE and Climate Action, further reinforced Lagos standing as a leading centre for climate innovation on the continent. Panellists included Mrs Titi Oshodi, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engineer Abimbola Akinajo, the President and Chief Executive of Oando Clean Energy, Demola Ogunbanjo, Senior Manager at the International Finance Corporation Climate Business Department, and Diep Nguyen van Houtte. They discussed subnational financing for State Determined Contributions and the emerging role of African cities as climate investment champions. Christian Daube from Climate KIC moderated the discussion.
At the Dealroom Session, Lagos presented its extensive project pipeline to global investors and development partners. The session produced strong expressions of interest from financiers focused on scalable clean energy and circular economy initiatives.
Under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, Lagos continues to lead African cities in aligning climate ambition with investment readiness. Reflecting on the engagements, Mrs Titi Oshodi reiterated Lagos commitment to driving a just transition movement across the continent and positioning the State as a pioneer in climate forward development.
