- A group of political stakeholders has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) expression of interest and nomination forms for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to contest the 2027 Abia State governorship election.
- The delegation presented the forms in Abuja, citing Kalu’s legislative performance since 2019 and his role as a unifying figure as primary reasons for their support.
- Stakeholders credited Kalu with helping to rebuild the APC in the South-East, noting a significant “rejuvenation” of the party’s grassroots base over the past seven months.
The push for Benjamin Kalu to enter the 2027 Abia governorship race intensified on Saturday as professionals and political leaders from across the state’s senatorial districts formally drafted him into the contest.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Senior Advocate of Nigeria James Uko-Kalu, speaking for the group, emphasized that Kalu’s national leadership experience makes him the ideal candidate to replicate development at the state level.

Retired Major General Jack Nwaogbu further lauded the Deputy Speaker for his efforts in unifying the party following internal divisions that hampered the APC during the 2023 general elections.
Kalu, who has been a ranking member of the House of Representatives since 2019, noted that the gesture aligns with a broader desire to change the narrative of Abia State.

He linked the stakeholders’ vision to President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and emphasized the importance of unity within the party to achieve meaningful progress.
While Kalu has yet to officially declare his candidacy, the purchase of the nomination forms marks the most significant step toward his potential entry into the race.
