And to be honest, it feels a bit unusual.

This is Lagos we’re talking about, a place where politics is never quiet. Normally, when it’s time to choose a successor, you expect tension, noise, back-and-forth, and maybe a little drama for good measure. But this time, things seem to be moving differently. Instead of chaos, what we are seeing is a steady stream of endorsements, almost like everyone quietly agreed on something before the rest of us caught on.
It makes you pause for a second.
Hamzat doesn’t come across as the loud, attention-seeking type. He’s more of the calm, calculated kind. The type that listens, observes, and then moves when the time is right. And somehow, that approach seems to be working for him. People across different groups, party leaders, stakeholders, even those who don’t always agree, seem to be aligning around him.

At some point, you stop asking how it’s happening and just accept that it is happening.
Let’s be real for a moment and imagine this over a cup of tea.
Because what we are seeing is not just endorsements, it’s acceptance. And in Lagos politics, that doesn’t come easy. A sitting governor openly supporting his deputy? That alone is enough to make you look twice. Add to that the backing from party elders and even the nod from the top, and you begin to see a clear picture forming.
Of course, some people will point to his background, and they won’t be entirely wrong. Coming from a political family and having close ties to key figures certainly plays a role. But that’s not the full story. If it were that simple, many others would have achieved the same thing by now.
The truth is, Hamzat has been around for a while, quietly building his path. From his time as a commissioner to serving under different governors and now as deputy governor, he has stayed consistent. No unnecessary drama, no jumping around, just steady work.
And maybe that’s the real lesson here.

In a space where people often feel the need to shout to be noticed, Hamzat chose a different route. He stayed focused, kept working, and waited for the right time. Now that time seems to have arrived.
It’s also worth remembering that this didn’t start today. Back in 2019, he stepped aside and played a supportive role. Not everyone would do that. But looking at where he is now, it’s clear that patience can sometimes pay off in ways people don’t expect.

If you think about it, Lagos politics has seen many strong contenders come and go. Deputies have tried, speakers have tried, loyalists have tried. But the system doesn’t always reward effort immediately. You have to understand it, respect it, and sometimes, just wait.
That’s what makes this moment interesting.

Hamzat’s rise doesn’t feel forced. It feels like something that has been building over time. And whether you’re fully convinced or still watching from the sidelines, you can’t deny that there’s a certain level of structure and thought behind it.
At the end of the day, politics will always have its surprises. But every now and then, you see a moment that actually makes sense when you look closely.

This might just be one of those moments.
So before you rush to take sides or form a strong opinion, take a step back.
Think about it.
Because sometimes, the quiet moves are the ones that matter the most.
