- 2027 Lagos Governorship: Naheem Balogun Enters Race Under ADC
- Balogun said Lagos State and Nigeria had endured years of hardship
- Balogun also emphasised that the ADC remains open to strategic alliances
Naheem Balogun, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Eko Hot Blog reports that Balogun made the declaration at a ceremony held at the De-Echo Event Centre in Egbeda, attended by ADC leaders and supporters from Alimosho Local Government Area.

Addressing party members, Balogun said Lagos State and Nigeria had endured years of hardship, stressing that the situation demanded a new direction in leadership. He urged Nigerians, particularly young voters, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing them as essential tools for democratic participation and national renewal.
“The 2023 election sent a clear message. We cannot continue like this. As we approach 2027, Nigerians must get their PVCs and use them to change the fortunes of our dear country,” he said.
Balogun also emphasised that the ADC remains open to strategic alliances, noting that the party welcomes members of other political platforms and individuals committed to good governance, accountability and development.

The ADC Chairman in Alimosho Local Government, Wesley Odeyemi, assured Balogun of the party’s full backing, pledging to mobilise grassroots support to ensure a successful campaign.
Similarly, the ADC House of Representatives aspirant for Alimosho Federal Constituency, Dapo Igbasan, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, stating that it would overcome political intimidation. A Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant, Gideon Adeniran, also stressed that internal unity would be critical to electoral success.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, political activity in Lagos is expected to intensify. The race gained further momentum last year following the defection of the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, to the ADC.
However, it remains unclear who the ADC will eventually present as its flagbearer, even as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continues efforts to retain control of the state.
