The win handed Cruzeiro their first Minas Gerais state title since 2019 under the guidance of head coach Tite, the former manager of the Brazil national football team.

However, the triumph was overshadowed by a violent confrontation that erupted near the end of the match.
Security personnel and military police had to step in as players from both teams became involved in a heated clash.
The incident began when Atlético Mineiro goalkeeper Everson pushed Cruzeiro midfielder Christian to the ground after the pair collided while chasing a loose ball.
Everson then placed his knee on the midfielder’s chest, sparking outrage from Cruzeiro players.
Christian’s teammates quickly confronted the goalkeeper, pushing him toward the goalpost, and the situation escalated as more players joined the altercation while officials attempted to restore order.

Referee Matheus Delgado Candançan did not show red cards during the match because the chaotic scenes made it difficult to control the situation.
However, after reviewing the incident, authorities later issued a total of 23 red cards.
Cruzeiro had 12 players dismissed, including goalscorer Kaio Jorge. Atlético Mineiro saw 11 players sent off, among them former Brazil international Hulk and defender Renan Lodi.
Speaking after the match, Hulk expressed disappointment over the incident, saying the scenes reflected poorly on the clubs and the sport.

He stressed that players have a responsibility to maintain a positive image for their teams and for football as a whole.
Despite the dramatic final, both clubs have struggled in the current season of Brazil’s top league, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
After four matches, Atlético Mineiro sit 17th in the standings, while Cruzeiro are just below them in 19th place.
