The baby’s mother later reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Lagos for further investigation.
Speaking to journalists, the suspect admitted to the act and said financial difficulties pushed him to make the decision.
He claimed that he met the alleged buyer through social media, specifically Facebook, and that discussions about the transaction took place online.

According to him, the buyer requested that the baby be brought to Mile 2, Lagos, where the handover reportedly occurred.
He stated that a representative of the buyer collected the child, after which N2 million was transferred into his bank account.
The suspect said he gave his sister N500,000 from the proceeds and used the remaining funds to organise their mother’s burial.
He further alleged that after the funeral, his sister demanded the return of the baby and later reported the incident to the police.
The suspect claimed that he does not personally know the buyer and has been unable to contact her since the transaction.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, Dayo Akinbisehin, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
He said the suspect will be charged in court once enquiries are completed.
