The decision was taken during the council’s inaugural plenary session held on March 7, 2026, under the leadership of the Speaker, Bello Fareedah.
During deliberations, members of the House expressed concerns over what they described as the illegal parading of some individuals as elected executives despite not being officially inaugurated according to the constitutional provisions guiding the association.
The parliament condemned the development, describing it as a threat to constitutional order and democratic principles within the student body.
Lawmakers noted that allowing individuals to assume office without proper inauguration could undermine the integrity of the institution, create divisions among students, and destabilize the unity of the student community across Epe Division.
To restore constitutional legitimacy, the House resolved that the seats of all un-inaugurated elected executive officers be declared vacant.
Following the resolution, the parliament constituted a Bye-Election Committee to oversee a fresh electoral process.
The committee is chaired by AbdulRahman Habeebat and is expected to conduct the process in a transparent manner to ensure the emergence of a duly elected and inaugurated leadership.
Beyond the constitutional issue, the plenary session also featured deliberations on several developmental initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of students across the division.
A motion moved by Hon. Islamiat proposed the establishment of a Tech Hub Initiative to equip students with digital and technological skills.
The motion was subsequently referred to the Academic Committee for further consideration and implementation.
Similarly, Hon. Lana Kehinde moved a motion for the Clean Up Epe Initiative, proposing the mobilization of about 500 volunteers to address issues relating to waste disposal and environmental sanitation across the division.
The Speaker referred the motion to the Health and Environment Committee for further legislative action.
Another motion, moved by Hon. Ramota, focused on the Pad a Girl Child Initiative, which seeks to address menstrual absenteeism among female students.
The Speaker commended the initiative, noting that it aligns with the agenda of the Chairman of Epe Local Government Area, Surah Animashaun. The motion was referred to the Female and Health Committee.
During the session, Hon. Bakre Isreal Boluwatife also raised an observation regarding the proper procedures for presenting bills and motions in the parliament.
Following the discussion, the Speaker appointed him as Leader of the House to coordinate legislative activities and strengthen bill sponsorship and representation.
The plenary was attended by legal practitioner Adeleke Aroyewun, who advised the parliament to prioritize data-driven decision-making and evidence-based advocacy while upholding the standards of parliamentary excellence.
The session was later adjourned indefinitely following a motion moved by the Leader of the House, seconded by the Clerk and approved by the Speaker.
