Police prosecutor, Chinyeaka Njoku, informed the court that the incident occurred on March 15, 2025, in Ugwuafor Arochukwu, Arochukwu LGA.
Despite pleading not guilty to the charge, the court denied Okoronkwo bail and ordered him to be remanded at Afara Correctional Centre in Umuahia.
Magistrate’s ruling considered the gravity of the offence and the potential weight of punishment if found guilty.
Bail application made by the defence counsel was opposed by the prosecutor who pointed out the prevalence of such crimes in society and the severity of punishment in case of conviction.
The matter is adjourned till June 26, 2025, for further proceedings.
In an interview, the victim’s mother, Onyinyechi Abia, alleged that the defendant infected the child with sexually transmitted diseases and demanded justice to be served in the matter.
