Initial reports indicated that the NURTW official survived the attack alongside other occupants of the vehicle after they sustained gunshot injuries. However, he was later confirmed dead.
His death has sparked grief across Lagos, especially in Mushin, where many residents remember him not only as a transport union leader but also for his involvement in community development and humanitarian outreach.
Just weeks before his death, Ajiboye had addressed residents during a community programme, urging people to embrace peace, unity and togetherness.
A video from the event, now widely shared online, captured him appealing for harmony among residents while encouraging collective progress in the area.
The message has taken on a tragic significance following his killing barely two months later, with many describing the development as a painful irony.
Tributes have continued to pour in from political associates, transport union members and residents who recalled his contributions to the Mushin community through charitable activities and support for local initiatives.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the NURTW Lagos State Council, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described Ajiboye’s death as a devastating loss.
“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable and committed ally,” he said in a tribute.
Adekunle described the late Organising Secretary as more than a political associate, saying he remained a trusted friend and a pillar of the union.

“Comrade Toba Ajiboye was more than an ally. He was a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment. His friendship, support and selfless dedication to the union over the years will forever remain etched in my heart,” he added.
He also extended his condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends and members of the NURTW, praying for God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the gunmen and the motive behind the attack had yet to be officially disclosed, while security authorities had not announced any arrests.
The killing has renewed concerns over targeted attacks and violent crimes in Lagos, with many residents calling for a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
