$52.88 Million Linked to Diezani Returned to Nigeria by the United States

The Nigerian government has received a significant boost to its economy with the receipt of $52.88 million in recovered assets from the United States.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, confirmed the receipt of these funds at a signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday.
Fagbemi explained that $50 million of the recovered assets will be deployed through the World Bank to fund rural electrification projects, with the remaining $2 million to be used by the International Institute of Justice to expand the justice system and combat corruption.
The returned assets represent a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against corruption and the promotion of the rule of law.
The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, has requested that these funds be used judiciously to benefit the people of Nigeria.
The Economic and Finacial crimes Commission (EFCC) said about $153m and more than 80 properties had been recovered from the Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was in the cabinet from 2007.
