LASTMA Deputy Manager calls on motorists and commuters to be cautious on the road suring ’ember months’ to avoid accidents

The Deputy General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Issac Adetimiro has called on motorists and commuters to be cautious on the roads during the ‘ember months to avoid accidents that could lead to loss of lives and property usually attributed to massive travel during last quarter of the year.

Adetimiro gave the advice during a meeting with stakeholders today at the Oshodi Complex of the Agency, urging commuters to be cautious on the roads. He debunked the myth that ember months are usually hazardous for motorists, saying the anxiety caused by such false claim is unnecessary.

“There is no truth in the myth, as accidents can be averted if we all obey and adhere strictly to traffic laws and ensure that our vehicles are well maintained. I will also like to urge traders not to sell on the roads, and motorists not to patronise street traders, in order to ensure free flow of traffic across the State,” he said.

The Deputy General Manager implored all motorists to check the condition of their vehicles, have valid vehicle documents and obey all traffic rules and regulations, emphasising that ignorance of the law is no excuse.

While advising commercial motorcyclists and tricycle operators to comply with the traffic laws to ensure sanity and safety on Lagos roads, Adetimiro admonished motorists to shun recklessness and unruly behaviour while driving.

We cannot wish away the fact that the growing population of Lagos residents on a daily basis is one of the reasons we are faced with traffic challenges; while this reality humbles us, our officials have been trained on civility, politeness and protocol of arrest with emphasis on respect for even members of the public who violate traffic laws”, he averred.
