AUI 2024 New Students’ Orientation Kicks Off with Emphasis on Values, Discipline

Ekohotblog reports that Augustine University (AUI) officially welcomed its new students for the 2024/2025 academic session with an orientation programme that began on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the University’s Convocation Hall.

The three-day event aims to introduce the students to the institution’s culture, policies, and academic requirements while fostering a sense of belonging within the university community.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde, urged the students to embrace discipline and focus on their academic goals.

“Augustine University is a place where excellence thrives. To succeed here, you must uphold our values, follow the rules, and strive for greatness,” he said.

He also encouraged students to form meaningful friendships, stating:

“The relationships you build here will shape your journey and support your growth both academically and personally.”

The Registrar, Mrs. Margaret Aziba, highlighted the institution’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.

“At Augustine University, we focus on excellence and holistic development. You are now part of a family that values character, integrity, and academic success,” she said during her presentation on the University’s structure, mission, and vision

Dr. Juliet Olughor, Acting Head of Business Administration, explained the organizational structure of the institution, while Professor Adelodun Kolapo, Director of Academic Planning, gave students a comprehensive overview of academic life. He detailed the grading system and emphasized:

“Understanding the academic policies early will help you avoid unnecessary mistakes and guide you to excel.

Technology featured prominently in the discussions. Rev. Sr. Adebola Daramola, Acting Director of ICT, explained the importance of staying connected through the University’s online platforms.

“Your student portal and email are your lifelines to critical information. Learn to use them effectively,” she said while demonstrating how to navigate the University’s ICT systems.

A session on conduct and environmental responsibility was led by Dr. Philip Edema, Acting Head of Philosophy and Religious Studies, represented by Dr. Monsurat Soyombo. She urged students to respect University property, maintain cleanliness, and act responsibly.

“Your behavior reflects not only on you but also on the University community. Let’s build a culture of respect and responsibility together,” she advised.

The day’s activities concluded with a presentation by the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ngozi Chikere, who discussed the University’s merit and demerit system, campus awards, and the process for obtaining exeats.

“Our rules are not just about discipline; they are about guiding you to be your best self,” she noted.

One of the new students, Maryam Ibrahim, expressed her excitement about joining Augustine University.

“The orientation is really helpful. It has made me feel welcome and prepared for what lies ahead,” she said.
