Trigger-Happy Policeman Arrested For Killing Teenager Over Fireworks in Delta
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the tragic incident occurred on Saturday night when police officers arrived in the area after finding fireworks, known locally as “knockouts,” in the victim’s possession.
Reports indicate that the teenager resisted arrest and, as he attempted to flee, one of the policemen opened fire, fatally shooting him.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, stated, “The policeman has been identified and detained.” He also noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, had intervened in the matter, assuring the victim’s family that justice would be served.

Human rights group Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (also known as “No Justice, No Peace”) condemned the killing and called for a thorough investigation.
The group’s National Coordinator, Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, urged the Delta State Police Command to hold the responsible officer accountable.

Agberen extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and urged residents of Ozoro and other Nigerians to remain civil when interacting with armed police officers.
“I sympathize with the family of the young boy who was allegedly shot by a police officer at Ozoro last night due to fireworks in his possession,” Agberen said. “I strongly condemn the unprofessional conduct of the police officer involved in this incident.”
