The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to incorporating mini and midi buses, commonly referred to as Korope and Danfo, operating in the Lekki-Ajah axis into the State’s Bus Reform Initiative.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement came from Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, during a stakeholder meeting on Wednesday in Alausa.

Giwa noted that the project is currently in its planning phase and will commence upon the completion of all necessary arrangements.

So far, 10 operators have submitted letters of intent to the Ministry of Transportation, with six having been confirmed.

To ensure the roadworthiness and proper documentation of participating buses, Giwa explained that they will undergo physical verification by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) and Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA).

Once verified, these buses will be branded with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) colours and equipped with validators, further streamlining their integration into the city’s transportation system.

Hon. Giwa noted that a framework is being developed to integrate union dues deductions into the e-ticketing system, while also addressing the activities of hoodlums who extort transporters along the axis, stressing that the initiative will be test-run for three months before full enforcement.

He emphasized that once the programme is implemented, minibuses (Korope) will no longer be allowed to operate along the Lekki-Ajah expressway but will be deployed to inner routes and communities.
