According to him, the programme is aimed at strengthening and complementing the efforts of LASTMA officers in the critical task of ensuring traffic order, safety a nd mobility in the state.
“This pioneering scheme represents an unprecedented synthesis of media advocacy and operational enforcement, strategically leveraging the communicative authority of the press, to stimulate heightened public compliance.
“The synergy will also promote civic enlightenment and engender a profound reorientation of behavioural attitudes on Lagos roads,” he said.

Bakare-Oki stressed the vital role of the media as both architects of public consciousness and catalysts for societal transformation.
He described the Traffic Mayor initiative as a landmark step in the state’s pursuit of a sustainable framework for traffic governance.
He added that media professionals would go beyond their traditional role as information providers to become ambassadors of orderliness, serving as examples of civic discipline and custodians of public morality in Lagos’ transport system.
“Under this collaborative framework, traffic mayors will operate in organic symbiosis with LASTMA officers; sensitising the motoring public, amplifying traffic advisories, countering misinformation and embodying the ideals of lawful conduct on Lagos roads,” he said.
The Director of Traffic Advocacy and Special Mayor, Awoyemi Jimmy, also noted that traffic management in a megacity like Lagos could not rely solely on enforcement.
He explained that it must be rooted in lasting partnerships with thought leaders, media representatives and civic stakeholders.
Jimmy further emphasised that the state government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, remained fully committed to deploying diverse solutions to ensure smooth urban mobility.
“Government is also committed to stimulating socio-economic productivity and safeguard the dignity of every Lagos resident as they navigate the metropolis,” he said.
