According to witnesses, the assailants trailed him to his home, double-crossed him with their vehicle, and forced him into their car after a brief exchange.
“It is suspected to be a kidnapping for ransom,” a source said. “He is not a politician, so it’s puzzling why anyone would target him unless for financial gain.”
The abduction of the respected and soft-spoken doctor has sparked outrage among his colleagues and the local community.

Staff at NAUTH have expressed frustration over the growing insecurity, noting that even professionals who dedicate their lives to saving others are now at risk.
“We are devastated. Dr. Onuigbo is a kind man who cares deeply for his patients,” said a colleague at NAUTH.
Since the incident, there has been no contact from the kidnappers or any information on Dr. Onuigbo’s whereabouts.
His family remains anxious as they await updates.
NAUTH’s Head of Corporate Affairs confirmed the incident, stating, “The institution is aware of the situation, and necessary actions are being taken.”
