Bruno Fernandes scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to secure Manchester United’s victory over Rangers in their all-British clash at Old Trafford.
Rangers’ fans were still celebrating what they believed was a last-minute draw after Cyriel Dessers’ brilliant 88th-minute strike levelled the score, driving the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
But Fernandes had other ideas, connecting with Lisandro Martinez’s cross to the far post and firing a first-time shot through Jack Butland’s legs to snatch the win.

From his seat in the directors’ box, legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could only shake his head in disbelief at the thrilling conclusion.
At least the match wasn’t solely remembered for Butland’s costly own goal, which came when he misjudged Christian Eriksen’s 52nd-minute corner and accidentally punched the ball into his own net.
United displayed resilience, just days after head coach Ruben Amorim had criticized his team, saying they were “maybe the worst team in Manchester United history.”

For Rangers, it was a cruel blow, extending their winless away run since December 8. The Scottish side dropped to 13th in the standings and now face a must-win match against Union Saint-Gilloise next week to secure automatic progression to the last 16. However, they are still guaranteed a spot in the knockout round.
United, now fourth, will secure their place in the last 16 with an away win against Romania’s FCSB.
