Remo Stars extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Akwa United.

Akwa United got off to a bright start, taking the lead in the 6th minute through Uche Sabastine’s early goal. The game remained tense, with both teams creating chances but struggling to convert.
However, Samuel Anakwe brought Remo Stars back into the game in the 74th minute, scoring the equalizer to level the match. With just five minutes left on the clock, Olamilekan Adedayo stepped up and scored the decisive goal, sealing a crucial win for Remo Stars.

The victory pushed Remo Stars to the top of the NPFL table with 39 points from 20 games, giving them a five-point cushion over their closest rivals.
Meanwhile, at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United delivered a major blow to Rivers United’s title ambitions with a dramatic 2-1 victory.
Olawale Doyeni opened the scoring for Plateau United in the 21st minute, giving the home team an early advantage. Rivers United fought back and equalized just before halftime, thanks to Ndifreke Effiong’s clinical finish.

The game seemed destined to end in a draw, but Emmanuel Ihezuo scored deep into stoppage time, giving Plateau United all three points and leaving Rivers United’s title hopes in serious doubt.
