The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has apprehended two individuals for allegedly stealing 2,100 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol or fuel.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the Commanding Officer, Capt. Aliyu Abdullahi, announced the arrests while handing over the suspects and recovered items to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Ibaka on Monday.

During a routine patrol along the Mbo River area on January 24 at approximately 7:45 pm, naval personnel intercepted a wooden boat carrying the stolen petrol.
The fuel was found concealed under various cargo items, such as bread, fruits, and bags of cassava flakes.
Capt. Aliyu Abdullahi, the commanding officer, revealed that the two suspects had allegedly intended to smuggle the stolen petrol from Nigeria into the Republic of Cameroon.

Abdullahi further emphasized that under the leadership of Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ibaka would remain steadfast in its fight against waterway crime.
He expressed determination in ensuring that maritime crimes would not go unchecked in Akwa Ibom’s waterways and coastal areas.
“We shall continue to detect criminals and their activities within the nation’s waterways through the use of advanced surveillance equipment and intelligence.

“Individuals or groups involved in smuggling or any form of criminal activity within Nigeria’s waters should desist immediately,” he said.`
While receiving the suspects and Items, the state’s assistant superintendent of the NSCDC, Willie Emediong, said the corps would prosecute the suspects after thorough investigations on the matter.
