EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking at the congress, Wike challenged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, insisting that the election was legitimate and irreversible. He urged delegates to elect leaders who would defend and protect the party, emphasizing the need for strong leadership.
“The South-South Zone is the strongest PDP zone in Nigeria. There has never been a congress where every delegate was present, and no part of the constitution states that an election should be postponed for personal reasons,” Wike stated.
He further asserted that the NWC does not have the constitutional power to conduct zonal congresses, adding, “After today’s election, no other zonal congress will hold.”
Wike also dismissed concerns about his political influence, saying, “Nobody can intimidate me, and I don’t need to be a governor.” He urged members to remain united and elect leaders who would strengthen the party.
Meanwhile, South-South PDP Zonal Chairman, Dan Orbih, said the party’s crisis in the zone was self-inflicted and warned against internal divisions. He expressed optimism that the congress would help reposition and rebuild the party.

However, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has distanced itself from the Calabar congress, signaling potential disputes over its legitimacy.
