Kano State’s Islamic Sharia police unit, known as Hisbah, has reportedly detained several young men on the first day of Ramadan for allegedly failing to observe the fast.
According to Daily Post, the Deputy Commander General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the detentions to reporters in the state.

In a related enforcement action, the board also apprehended about 60 individuals for sporting “indecent haircuts,” a practice deemed to violate both Islamic law and local cultural norms.

Additionally, several commercial tricycle (keke napep) drivers were detained for allegedly transporting male and female passengers together—a practice the board has declared unacceptable.
The Hisbah Board has vowed to continue its patrols throughout Ramadan to ensure strict compliance with Sharia law.
In a separate development in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s administration announced the closure of all schools for the Ramadan period.
EKO HOT BLOG reported that this directive affects primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. On Thursday, the Katsina Hisbah Board issued a warning to private schools, emphasizing that no private lessons should be conducted during the fasting period.
The statement read:“By the Katsina State Government’s directive, all private schools are required to close for the Ramadan period to allow pupils to fully observe the holy month. The Hisbah Board urges all school proprietors to strictly comply with this directive. Non-compliance will not be tolerated.
