A 41-year-old man, Madebayo Adewalem, and a 27-year-old woman, Rukayat Oyinkansola Shonibare, have been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly stealing N10 million in cash gifts and an undisclosed amount of US Dollars sprayed on a newlywed couple during their wedding celebration at the Classique Event Centre in Oregun, Ikeja.
According to the Police, the couple discovered the missing cash and Dollar notes after the wedding, suspecting the involvement of Adewalem and Shonibare, who had been collecting and storing the money in a bag during the festivities.

Upon questioning, the suspects could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the missing funds.
The newlyweds reported the incident to the Alausa Division Police, leading to the arrest and detainment of Adewalem and Shonibare for interrogation.
The Police found the suspects culpable and subsequently charged them at the Ogba Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy and stealing under Lagos State’s Criminal Laws.
In response to the charges, both suspects, Madebayo Adewalem and Rukayat Oyinkansola Shonibare, pleaded not guilty.

Consequently, the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, requested that the Court set a date for a hearing, allowing the Police an opportunity to present evidence supporting the alleged offenses.
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. O. Kusanu granted bail to the defendants, under the condition that they provide two sureties who can demonstrate proof of livelihood and tax payment, with their addresses subject to verification by the Court.

The case has been adjourned, with Adewalem and Shonibare currently remanded at the Kirikiri town correctional center in Lagos as they work to fulfill their bail requirements.
