A protest by women in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, turned violent on Tuesday following the intervention of joint security forces, including the Nigerian Army and police, leaving at least three protesters injured.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the women had seized a community member, Israel Mgborogwu, accusing him of providing information about farmers to suspected herdsmen.

They also alleged that he falsely claimed on social media that herdsmen had not attacked the community. In video clips seen by our correspondent, the protesters paraded Mgborogwu through the streets, accusing him and the acting President General of Mgbuji Autonomous Community, Donatus Odoh, of selling community land to unidentified individuals and colluding with herdsmen.
“He gave information about farmers to herdsmen on whoever went to farm and fell victim to the killings,” one of the women told our correspondent. The acting President General, Odoh, reportedly managed to escape being captured by the protesters.
The demonstration escalated when security forces, comprising soldiers, police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel, were deployed to rescue Mgborogwu. In the ensuing chaos, the security operatives allegedly used tear gas and force against the women. Witnesses reported that armoured tanks were rolled in, and several women sustained injuries, with three suffering severe beatings.
“The policemen and soldiers injured several women, with three badly battered,” Mrs. Janet Ogenyi told our correspondent over the phone.

The unrest in Eha-Amufu has deepened tensions within the community, with some residents alleging widespread insecurity, while others dismiss the claims as exaggerated.
Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages. Similarly, the acting Deputy Director of 82 Division Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, did not answer calls or reply to text messages at the time of filing this report.
