The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the 19th Olu of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, who died on Saturday at the age of 86.
Ekohotblog reports that in a condolence message issued on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Governor described the late monarch as “a noble and selfless leader who devoted his life to the growth and development of Epe Kingdom and Lagos State.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the monarch’s decades of public service and praised his leadership style, which blended administrative excellence with traditional wisdom.
“Oba Balogun made lots of positive impact during his lifetime, contributing meaningfully to the Lagos State Civil Service, as well as the growth and development of Epe Kingdom and the traditional institution in Lagos State,” the Governor said.
Oba Adewale, fondly remembered for his humility and integrity, served diligently in the Lagos State Civil Service, where he rose to the position of Director of Administration in the Ministry of Education and later became Executive Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, before ascending the throne.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the royal family, traditional council, and the entire people of Epe to uphold the legacy of the revered monarch.
“On behalf of the government and people of Lagos, I commiserate with the people of the ancient city of Epe, the traditional council, and the deceased’s family, friends and political associates on the transition of the 19th Olu of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale,” he said.
“I pray that Almighty God be pleased with the soul of the late monarch and grant the royal family and the people of Epe Kingdom the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
Oba Shefiu Adewale was buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites. The final rites included lying-in-state at the palace, prayers at the mosque, and internment at his private residence.
