In the wake of the Olu-Epe, Oba Shefiu Ọlatunji Adewale’s passing, a palpable silence has enveloped the Epe Kingdom. Amidst the somber atmosphere, the Aremo of Epe Kingdom, Otunba TJ Abass has emerged with an uplifting message for the youth.
Eko Hot Blog had earlier reported that the late monarch passed away on Saturday at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy characterized by impact, simplicity, integrity, and honesty which has become a source of inspiration for those he leaves behind.

In recognition of the extensive media coverage provided by the youth in the community, Abass, a media icon and community leader in Epe, took the opportunity to encourage young people to draw lessons from the life and leadership of the late king.
In his message he said “You were not merely a media errand boy—you became an integral part of a collective mission: to tell our story. A story rooted in good name, character, integrity, and the Omoluabi ethos so deeply embodied by the late Kabiyesi”.
Recognizing the monarch’s passing, he reflected on the legacy and values the respected traditional ruler stood for. He emphasized that the values should continue to inspire and resonate within the community.

Abass further elaborated on the humble and principled nature of the late monarch, citing several instances that revealed his commitment to simplicity and integrity.
Firstly, he noted that the late Oba Adewale owned a meager collection of just two cars and two modest houses, despite his eminent position.
Most remarkably, not a single plot of land bore his name, a testament to the Olu-Epe’s resolve to remain uncorrupted despite his role as Executive Secretary of Lands in Lagos State
He reminisced about a significant moment when the current Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu, disclosed that it was the late Monarch who allocated him his first plot of land in Lekki. Ironically, the late Olu-Epe himself never owned land in Lekki part of Lagos State.
Abass posed a thought-provoking question; How many high-ranking monarchs would decline a car gift, instead requesting that the funds be used to build roads for the community’s benefit?

He stated that the late monarch’s life of simplicity and contentment was not merely a principle, it was ingrained in his identity.
He said the monarch was driven by the pursuit of lasting impact rather than personal gain, which he believes should be an example that offers invaluable lessons to the younger generation.
Abass while praying for the youth for divine guidance to uphold the wisdom and integrity the late monarch modeled urges the youth to be aware that “Honour is greater than affluence, and that legacy is built not by what we acquire, but by what we give”.
