The list of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors who defected while still in office has grown longer, with Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, officially announcing his move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Eno declared his defection during a well-attended ceremony at the Government House, Uyo, on Friday, June 6, 2025.

Top APC figures including Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, were present at the event.

“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness but from strength,” Eno said. “We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom and we come into the APC with a ministry of reconciliation.”

The governor noted that his decision followed consultations with stakeholders across the state. He also confirmed that he had formally resigned from the PDP at the ward, state, and national levels.

Umo Eno becomes the second PDP governor to switch to the APC under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, following Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who defected in April 2025.

The trend of PDP governors switching to APC while still in office has continued to alter Nigeria’s political terrain, especially ahead of key national elections.
