The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. According to the statement, the declaration was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Congratulating Nigerians on the occasion, the minister lauded the country’s 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, describing it as a powerful reflection of the nation’s collective strength, resilience, and commitment to constitutional rule.
“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign, peace is sustained, and our future assured,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He added that Nigeria’s democratic journey over the past two and a half decades has been marked by courage and determination, expressing optimism that the country stands poised for a brighter and more prosperous future.
The minister reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and principles under the Renewed Hope agenda. He emphasized that Nigeria’s democracy remains grounded in the freely expressed will of the people and must be continuously improved.

“Democracy is sustained with open doors for further improvement,” he stated. “The government is committed to upholding democratic values that will continue to shape the political, economic, and social development of our nation.”
