Ikeja Electric Plc has announced the successful conviction of three individuals for tampering with the company’s power distribution equipment, as confirmed in a statement by Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the convicts were prosecuted and sentenced in Lagos State magistrate courts for vandalizing and stealing electrical assets belonging to the distribution company.

In one case, Adegbite Jamiu was sentenced to six months in prison for vandalizing a transformer serving the Igboye community.
On another occasion, Jeremiah Chukwuemeka and Joshua Udeh received one-year sentences each for vandalizing and stealing cables from a transformer in Ikeja GRA. All convicts pleaded guilty to various charges, including conspiracy, theft, and willful damage to public infrastructure.

Babatunde Osadare, Ikeja Electric’s Chief Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Officer, commended the swift judicial response and expressed hope that the sentences would serve as a deterrent to other potential vandals.
“These convictions reinforce our commitment to protecting our infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity distribution to our customers.
We appreciate the efforts of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies and urge community members to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities to the authorities, and avoid taking the law into your hands,” he said.
He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to partnering with security agencies and local communities in safeguarding electricity infrastructure. By working together to address vandalism and theft, these collaborative efforts aim to foster stable power supply and promote economic growth in the region.
