The arrest was made during a routine early-morning patrol by officers attached to the Gitata Division on March 6, 2026.
The patrol team intercepted the suspects along the Gitata–Gunduma Road at approximately 5:40 a.m. while they were attempting to move their loot.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, identified the suspects as 41-year-old Chigozie Igbokwe and 45-year-old Emmanuel John.
Investigations revealed that both men traveled from the Jikwoyi area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to carry out the sabotage in Nasarawa.
During the operation, the police recovered a gray Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 44 PM, which was being used to transport the stolen materials.
Also found in the suspects’ possession were specialized tools, including iron cutters, pliers, spanners, and a significant quantity of electric cables.

The Command emphasized that the activities of such vandals have been a primary driver of the frequent blackouts affecting Gitata and neighboring communities.
These acts of sabotage not only plunge residents into darkness but also place an immense financial burden on the government and electricity distribution companies.
Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed has commended the vigilance of the patrol team and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia.
The suspects are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
This arrest serves as a stern warning to those targeting public infrastructure, as the command has vowed to intensify patrols across vulnerable locations in the state to protect essential utility installations.
