- Says Nigeria was not without leadership or direction
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Sokoto State governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, over his recent claim that Nigeria is in peril and urgently needs salvation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the APC described Tambuwal’s remarks as alarmist and accused him of exhibiting misplaced moral outrage.

Oladejo argued that Tambuwal failed to provide the leadership now being demanded when he previously held key government positions.
“Moments of national challenge require introspection and accountability rather than political grandstanding,” Oladejo said. He noted that Nigerians expected tangible results during Tambuwal’s tenure in public office, adding that the former governor’s recent comments disregarded that record.
Oladejo also referenced Tambuwal’s 60th birthday celebration as an opportunity for reflection and a candid assessment of his public service, which he said was sidestepped. He further cited unresolved allegations of corruption involving the former governor, suggesting that such matters undermined the credibility of his intervention.

“Nigeria’s difficulties did not emerge overnight, nor can they be attributed solely to the present administration,” Oladejo said, adding that many who warn of national collapse today were themselves active participants in past governance failures. He argued that speaking of national peril without acknowledging personal responsibility amounted to political convenience rather than courage, insisting that such rhetoric insulted the intelligence of Nigerians.
While acknowledging the country’s challenges, he maintained that Nigeria was not without leadership or direction, highlighting ongoing economic and institutional reforms under the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said these reforms required patience, collective responsibility, and sincerity—not apocalyptic rhetoric aimed at political relevance.
The APC concluded by urging Tambuwal and other opposition figures to move beyond political theatre and support initiatives capable of advancing national progress.
