A horrifying incident in the Panshekara community of Kano left residents stunned and grief-stricken as Suleiman Muntari, a young man displaying signs of emotional distress, set himself ablaze in broad daylight.
Eko Hot Blog reports that eyewitness describe Muntari’s erratic behavior prior to the act, as he was seen wandering the streets and muttering to himself. Tragically, he then doused himself in petrol and ignited it with a match.

“He said he wanted to go to Paradise. People around thought he was just talking out of stress or frustration. Nobody imagined he would actually go through with it,” said Saminu Isah, who was at the scene.
Despite the best efforts of bystanders who tried to intervene, the flames engulfed Muntari before any assistance could be rendered. In the aftermath, some residents have speculated that he may have been under the influence of substances.

“It was obvious he wasn’t okay. You could tell from the way he was walking and talking. There was a strong smell coming from him, and he was shouting things that didn’t make sense,” explained Aisha Salisu, a woman who lives nearby.
While local authorities are yet to release an official statement, the disturbing scene has sparked a new debate about wave of mental cases amongst youths.
