Eko Hot Blog reports that the group is challenging LASIEC’s decision to conduct local government elections in all 57 council areas of the state.

They argue that elections should only be held in the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) officially recognized by the Constitution, not in the 37 additional Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) created by the state government.
In a court filing numbered FHC/L/CS/1012/2025, the group described LASIEC’s plan as “unconstitutional and illegal,” claiming it violates the 1999 Constitution.
They are asking the court to stop LASIEC from proceeding with the elections in the 57 councils and to declare that “LASIEC has no legal power to conduct elections in the 37 LCDAs.”

“A perpetual injunction restraining LASIEC from announcing or conducting elections in any council beyond the constitutionally sanctioned 20 LGAs; An order directing LASIEC to restrict its electoral activities strictly to the 20 LGAs.”
As of the time of filing this report, no date has been fixed for the hearing of the case.
