Upon his return to Sokoto, former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was met with a large crowd of supporters, in what many see as a show of force before the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the former Director General of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization used the occasion to openly criticize the ruling APC government.

Tambuwal alleged that the current administration is responsible for the economic hardship, insecurity, and political decline in Nigeria. He then declared his intention to mobilize Nigerians to remove the APC from power in 2027.
He also addressed the recent allegations surrounding his appearance before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), clarifying that his visit was voluntary.
Tambuwal denied claims that he had been withdrawing over ₦2 billion monthly from the state government’s account, calling them “blatant lies” and a politically motivated witch-hunt orchestrated by the state government.
He insisted that he would not be intimidated and that the truth would eventually come out.
