Argentina’s football community is in mourning following the sudden death of young midfielder, Camilo Ernesto Nuin, who tragically passed away during knee surgery.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nuin, 18, who played for second-division side San Telmo, died on Thursday while undergoing the medical procedure. The exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed.
The promising midfielder joined San Telmo in 2022 after rising through the youth systems of two of Argentina’s top clubs, Boca Juniors and Independiente.
San Telmo confirmed the devastating news in an official statement on Thursday, saying, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Camilo Ernesto Nuin, a player in our youth and reserve divisions, who was undergoing surgery today.”
The club further announced the suspension of its activities for the day in honour of Nuin, adding, “We stand with his family, friends, and teammates in this painful moment and remain fully available to support them in any way possible.”
Reacting to the incident, the President of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, described the news as heartbreaking. In a post on 𝕏, Tapia wrote, “A very sad piece of news that shakes the entire football world.”
The Argentine Football Association also released an official statement, expressing deep condolences. “The Argentine Football Association, through its president Claudio Tapia and executive committee, mourns the passing of Camilo Nuin and extends heartfelt sympathy to his family.”
