President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government for the Global South and Emerging Economic Bloc, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, commonly known as BRICS.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that President Tinubu’s plane landed at the Galeao Air Force Base at 8:45 p.m. local time on Friday, where he was received with a Guard of Honour coordinated by the base commander.

In a statement titled, ‘President Tinubu Arrives In Rio De Janeiro For BRICS Meeting’, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said Brazil’s Deputy Minister for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte, and the Deputy Minister for Trade Promotion, Science, Technology, Innovation, and Culture, received President Tinubu.
President Tinubu is in Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and is scheduled to attend a bilateral meeting hosted by President Lula on Saturday, July 5, ahead of the BRICS Summit taking place on July 6 and 7.
During the summit, Tinubu will take part in a plenary session and deliver a speech highlighting Nigeria’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the economy for global competitiveness.
He is also expected to engage with investors to explore opportunities in key sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals, healthcare, and alternative energy.
The summit’s theme is “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”

Deliberations at the summit will focus on key issues such as health, artificial intelligence, governance, and climate change.
In preparation for the Leaders’ Summit, BRICS political negotiators held discussions aimed at strengthening commitments to tackle socially determined diseases, establish frameworks for AI governance, and enhance climate finance efforts.
These discussions were centered on finding practical solutions to the structural challenges confronting the Global South.
Joining President Tinubu at the summit are state governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Prince Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).
