- Tinubu Administration Means Well for Nigerians – Wike
- Most of the economic challenges in the country were caused by past administrations
- Peace has returned to Rivers State
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring that the government’s economic reforms will soon bring positive outcomes.
Eko Hot Blog reports that during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, emphasized that many of the politicians now forming alliances under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have previously held leadership positions in Nigeria, yet have little to show for their time in office.

When asked if his entry into politics was influenced by former governor Rotimi Amaechi, Wike clarified that Amaechi was introduced to him back in 1998 while he served as Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government in Rivers State, and therefore, it could not have been Amaechi who brought him into politics.
“Tinubu’s administration means well for Nigeria. There was no way I could have worked with a government that does not love the people. Most of the economic challenges in the country were caused by past administrations and even by many of those that are forming coalition under the ADC now.
“Though the policies of the current administration could be hard, they will soon yield positive results. Some of the people criticizing the government of President Tinubu today started 18 months ago, when the government was barely six months in office. What did they want him to achieve within that period,” he said.
Commenting on Amaechi, he stated that becoming governor before him does not make Amaechi his senior and that he did not receive any political assistance from him.
“What did he do for me; he didn’t even recommend me to be Minister under former president Goodluck Jonathan. People like Amaechi had opportunities to serve, but they did not achieve anything, while in office. He was speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years, he was governor for eight years and a senior minister for eight years, but he has nothing to show for it.
“Nigerians should not be deceived, those who are saying that people are angry now, were in political offices in the past and they could not do anything to help the people,” he said.
Responding to claims that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in disarray and that members are leaving because of him, Wike dismissed the allegations, stating they are unfounded.
He pointed out that some individuals left the PDP as far back as 2014 to form the All Progressives Congress (APC), at a time when he had not yet become governor, attributing their actions to selfish ambitions.
Wike maintained that the root of the PDP’s internal crisis was the party’s failure to honor the agreement that a southerner should be its presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
Furthermore, he declined to say whether he would support the PDP’s candidate in the 2027 election, even if the candidate is from the South, against President Tinubu.
The FCT Minister also noted that peace has returned to Rivers State following the resolution of his differences with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
However, he chose not to reveal details of the agreement reached during the peace meeting with President Tinubu, the governor, and other stakeholders.
