In a bid to sensitize the public ahead of the much-anticipated local government and local council development area (LCDA) elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) held a press conference on Thursday, July 10 at its headquarters in Sabo, Yaba.
Ekohotblog reports that the briefing, which drew journalists and key stakeholders, highlighted LASIEC’s level of preparedness and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections across the state.

Delivering the welcome address, Chief Durojaiye Oluwo, a Commissioner with the Commission and the Ashipa of Epe Land, commended the media for its indispensable role in strengthening democracy.
“We recognize and appreciate the powerful role the press plays in shaping public perception and maintaining transparency. We urge all media professionals to carry out their responsibilities with utmost diligence, fairness, and integrity,” Chief Oluwo stated.
In her keynote address, the Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, provided a comprehensive update on the electoral body’s readiness. She disclosed that the elections will take place across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State, spanning 13,375 polling units.
“We have ensured that all necessary logistics, including the timely delivery of election materials and deployment of officials, are firmly in place. There will be no room for lapses,” she affirmed.

On the issue of security, she revealed that four security agencies will be stationed at every polling unit to maintain peace and order throughout the voting process.
She also emphasized LASIEC’s inclusive approach, assuring that persons with disabilities (PWDs), the elderly, and pregnant women will be given priority during voting.
“No voter will be disenfranchised on account of physical limitations. We are fully prepared to cater to the needs of our most vulnerable citizens,” she said.

Regarding the election schedule, the Chairman confirmed that voting will commence by 8:00 a.m. and conclude by 3:00 p.m., urging all eligible voters to participate actively.
“Your vote is your voice. Come out in large numbers and make it count,” she charged.
