The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urging Nigerians to shift focus away from political defections and instead confront the worsening economic hardship in the country.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a senior member of the PDP’s National Working Committee, speaking to Vanguard in Abuja, said Atiku’s latest exit should not distract citizens from the realities of hunger, inflation, and declining living standards affecting millions across Nigeria.
“Atiku’s departure from the PDP is nothing new. Hasn’t he left the party before? Did anything fundamentally change?” the official asked. “Meanwhile, people are hungry. Are our lives solely defined by politicians switching parties?”
The official noted that while the media is giving significant attention to political alignments, what matters more to Nigerians is relief from the daily struggle to survive.
Atiku, a former presidential candidate and founding member of the PDP, had earlier this week resigned from the party, citing a shift away from the PDP’s founding principles as the reason for his decision.
Reacting to the development, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State also downplayed the significance of Atiku’s resignation. Speaking in Akure, Ondo State, during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, Makinde said it was better for those stalling the party’s progress to step aside.

“Everyone is free to enter and exit. But it’s better those holding the party down take their leave,” Makinde stated.
