EKO HOT BLOG reports that this decision was contained in a communiqué released at the end of the meeting and endorsed by key stakeholders, including Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti; his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu; Labour Party Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Sylvester Ejiofor; and representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
While presenting the communiqué to the media, Senator Nwokocha said the move aligns with the Labour Party Constitution and the April 4, 2025 Supreme Court ruling, which marked the end of Barrister Julius Abure’s leadership.
The NEC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain neutral and professional ahead of upcoming elections, calling for free, fair, and credible processes across the country.
Speaking at the gathering, Governor Otti reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a transparent leadership transition, stressing the importance of due process. He explained that the leadership selection process would begin at the ward level, move through local governments and states, and conclude with a national convention.

“What we are here to do is to formally start the process of getting a new leadership for this party in an organised and structured manner,” Otti stated.
