According to official statements, Peter Obi has denied association with the ADC, The ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, says Obi is part of the coalition but not a card-carrying member of the party.
Speaking on Channels Television, Abdullahi explained that Obi had requested a leave of absence to complete the election process with the Labour Party.
“Peter Obi has been part of the coalition from the onset, attending almost every meeting. He was granted permission to complete the electoral process with the Labour Party, which is why he’s not a card-carrying member of our party,” Abdullahi said.
This development comes as the Labour Party’s national secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, recently stated that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket is open for contest and not reserved for any individual, including Obi.
Ibrahim warned that Obi’s association with the ADC might affect his chances of securing the party’s ticket.
In a recent interview, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Labour Party’s national secretary, emphasized that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket is open for contest.
He cited Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the party’s 2023 Vice Presidential candidate, as an example of someone who could potentially contest for the presidency.
The clarification on Peter Obi’s membership may serve as clarity in the open race for the Presidential candidacy.
